There is a saying that goes: It takes a village to raise a child. Similarly, it takes a village to support a person in a humanitarian crisis. With record-high humanitarian needs around the world, this year’s World Humanitarian Day builds on this metaphor of collective endeavour to grow global appreciation of humanitarian work!

To mark World Humanitarian Day 2022, the Alliance wants to recognize the essential work done by child protection practitioners to respond to children and their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

In the spirit of this important day, the Alliance wanted to take the opportunity to shine a light on the experiences of our member organisations during the COVID-19 pandemic. These experiences highlight the ways in which the CPHA sector adapted to respond to child protection risk factors during the pandemic and subsequent crises, including advocacy efforts, capacity strengthening and working across sectors, particularly education.

These accounts from AJEDI-Ka and BIFRED in the DRC and Swatantrata Abhiyan Nepal and Voice of Children in Nepal are choice examples featuring the overarching goal and strategic priorities outlined in the 2021-25 Alliance Strategy and truly represents that it takes a village to protect children during infectious disease outbreaks and beyond.
