Nonviolent Peaceforce (NP) is a dynamic, international non-governmental organisation. We work with people affected by violent conflicts to enhance their security and dignity through Unarmed Civilian Protection (UCP). We work to reduce violence, protect civilians in countries affected by violent conflict and its aftermath, and help transform the world’s response to conflict situations.

Overview: 

NP first established a presence in Ukraine in 2014/2015 working on peacebuilding and conflict mediation. NP has had a sustained presence in Ukraine since April 2022. NP occupies a unique space in the protection response in Ukraine; simultaneously providing direct protection to at-risk civilians and providing hands-on support to front-line volunteer collectives to directly contribute to the sustainability and safety of their actions.

Job Summary: 

The Team Leader (TL) is responsible for the on-site management of an NP field team. This entails ensuring an effective implementation of civilian protection programming while providing for field-based personnel management, financial and administrative functions, coordinating with HQ regarding logistics and procurement and ensuring compliance with NP’s security policies and procedures and country strategy. The TL is the primary representative of NP at coordination meetings with NGO partners and government authorities and departments in the field team’s area of operation.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Ensuring that all staff align with and uphold the organization's mission and values.
  • Fostering positive relationships with stakeholders, communities, and partners to enhance the organization's reputation.
  • Overseeing the entire project lifecycle, from conception to evaluation, and ensuring effective communication of project progress.
  • Providing leadership and direction to the field team, fostering a collaborative and motivated work environment.
  • Contributing to the generation of creative and effective program strategies and sharing insights with higher management.
  • Ensuring on-site oversight to assess project implementation and address issues promptly.
  • Enforcing organizational processes and protocols to maintain operational efficiency and transparency.
  • Ensuring that reports meet high standards, are submitted on time, and accurately reflect project outcomes.
  • Tracking financial resources to ensure adherence to budgetary allocations and identifying areas for cost optimization.
  • Implementing measures to safeguard the well-being of field teams and collaborating with external partners to address security concerns.

Qualifications: 

  • University degree in refugee law, human rights, international human rights law, international humanitarian law, negotiation, mediation, human security, or related fields.
  • 3-5 years’ work experience in human security, child protection, refugee, or civilian protection.
  • Demonstrated management experience in working in a complex security environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with state authorities, negotiation and mediation.
  • Demonstrated ability to live, work and solve problems independently and effectively in remote, highly challenging locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze conflict, security, and political contexts.
  • Contextual knowledge of Ukraine is highly desirable.
